Natural Disasters in History
On the 500th year of Vila Franca do Campo Earthquake
On behalf of the 500th anniversary of Vila Franca do Campo earthquake, occurred on October 22nd, 1522, and considering the relevance of understanding the impact of Natural Disasters on the past human communities, Vila Franca do Campo City Council and CHAM – (Centre for the Humanities) are responsible for organizing this international conference, leading five priority action areas:
Natural disasters in History: sources for its studies;
Natural disasters events in archaeological evidence;
Natural disasters in History through natural sciences perspective;
The role of natural disasters in the collective memory construction: past and present cases;
The impact of natural disasters on social, economic, and political dynamics.
